PIGMENT COMPENDIUM

The Pigment Compendium is a collection and documentation of all pigments or their raw materials that were received in the course of the project Chromatic Alchemy.

The book is divided into three parts; first, the reader is introduced to the extraction process of lake pigments with a step-by-step guide explaining the process and materials used. The second part shows, in chronological order, each package that was received in the post, its contents and information on the sender and the material's origin and properties, and serves as an evidence log of each participant. The third and last part consists of a foldable color swatch chart at the end of the book, which, when unfolded, creates an overall overview of all extracted colors and their shades and hues that can be achieved using different mordants and modifiers.

The final book is hand-bound using an open-back Swiss binding, ensuring proper incorporation of the foldable color-swatch chart in the back.
